K-Rod wants to return to Flushing

Francisco Rodriguez recently told reporters that he would welcome the opportunity to return to the Mets and rejuvenate his career. Rodriguez is currently playing for Team Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic this year, the same team that the Mets lost to by a score of 14-10 earlier today. Many reports indicate that the Mets will not rule out a possible reunion with K-Rod, but at the moment they are not aggressively pursuing him, or any relief pitcher for that matter.

"I failed when I was in [New York]," Rodriguez said. "To be able to get one more shot, to go back and get it done, that would be great."

In my opinion, bringing back K-Rod would be a huge mistake. The man is a ginormous distraction both on and off the field, and isn't exactly dominant anymore like he once was with the Angels. One could look at this situation and say that he would bring a veteran presence to the bullpen, but just because he is a veteran doesn't mean he will have a solid contribution with the team. After looking at his horrific stats from 2012, it appears that he is beginning to become washed up as a player.

The Mets have done quite a bit to revamp the bullpen. I like the additions of Brandon Lyon and Pedro Feliciano, and people like Greg Burke and LaTroy Hawkins could surprise us and actually have decent seasons. Right now, the Mets shouldn't be actively searching for relief help, and I expect that they will open the season with the guys that they currently have. Here is a comparison of K-Rod's stats when he was with the Mets in 2010, and the Brewers last season.

2010 Stats (Arguably his best season with the Mets)

New York Mets ------------- 53 appearances ----- 2.20 ERA ------- 3.3 BB/9 -------- 10.5 SO/9

2012 Stats

Milwaukee Brewers --------- 78 appearances ---- 4.38 ERA  -------- 3.9 BB/9 ------- 9.0 SO/9
